Why Finding the Right Conveyancer is Crucial

Conveyancing is the legal term for transferring ownership of property if you’re buying or selling.

A solicitor or conveyancer will handle all the legal aspects of buying and selling a property.

They will;

  1. Handle contract & transfers
  2. Give legal advice & guidance
  3. Carry out standard local council searches
  4. Deal with Land Registry
  5. Transfer the money to pay for your property

A good conveyancer and their team will keep you updated regularly and can support you by answering questions about the process of buying a property.

At Aston Bond, we act for a variety of developers on residential sales ranging from single residential sites to larger developments.

Our residential property service is tailored to meet your individual needs and to pre-empt problems where possible through clear communication.

We understand the complex or tricky issues that are sometimes involved in residential property transactions, and we use a practical approach.

Buying a house can be stressful. But having a solicitor or conveyancer who can answer any queries can make it a lot easier.

Good Care Month: Celebrating Care – and Why Planning Ahead Matters

This July marks Good Care Month, a nationwide campaign that shines a light on the compassion, resilience, and skill of everyone working in the social care sector. From frontline carers to admin staff and drivers, it’s a time to celebrate the dedicated individuals who help improve lives every day.

At Aston Bond, we want to join in recognising the vital work of care professionals — but also take this moment to reflect on the deeper message at the heart of Good Care Month: the value of planning for the future.

Just as carers provide security and peace of mind to those they look after, making a will is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your loved ones and give them clarity and support in the future.

How making a will shows care for those you leave behind

Many of us put off making a will, thinking it’s something for much later in life. But Good Care Month reminds us how important it is to plan ahead — not just for ourselves, but for the people who matter to us most.

Having a will ensures that:

Your wishes are clear and legally binding.

Your family and friends are spared unnecessary stress or disputes at an already difficult time.

You can provide for vulnerable loved ones, including those who might need additional care.

You choose how your estate is distributed, rather than leaving it to be decided by law.

At Aston Bond, we’re here to help

Our experienced team at Aston Bond understands that making a will can feel daunting. That’s why we work with you to make the process as straightforward and reassuring as possible. Just as those in the care sector offer their support with kindness and professionalism, we are committed to doing the same when it comes to securing your legacy.

So, as we celebrate Good Care Month, why not take the opportunity to show your own care and consideration — by ensuring your affairs are in order and your loved ones are protected?

If you’d like to talk to us about making or updating your will, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Let’s honour the spirit of Good Care Month by planning ahead — because true care is about looking after one another, today and tomorrow.

Top Misconceptions Around Solicitors

There are many myths surrounding solicitors, whether shaped by TV dramas, a lack of legal knowledge, or stereotypes. Too often, people forget that solicitors are compassionate professionals who truly appreciate the challenges their clients encounter.

Here, we’ll debunk some of the most widespread misconceptions.

“ Solicitors are grumpy and lack empathy “

Solicitors are often portrayed in movies and TV shows as serious and stern individuals, which can contribute to the misconception. However, it’s important to recognise that this stereotype is not universally true.

In fact, many solicitors build strong and positive relationships with their clients.

Effective communication and empathy are essential skills for solicitors to understand their client’s needs and provide appropriate legal advice. We understand the importance of creating a welcoming and supportive environment for our clients.

“ All solicitors do the same job “

Did you know that solicitors specialise in various areas of law? Just like doctors have different specialities, solicitors have expertise in fields like family law, property law, criminal law, corporate law, employment law and more. Each of these requires different expertise.

“ Solicitors only use complex legal jargon “

No. Good solicitors communicate clearly and avoid unnecessary legal jargon. They explain concepts in a way that clients can understand, ensuring effective communication throughout the legal process.

“ Solicitors cannot provide emotional support”

Solicitors can – and do! – lend a sympathetic ear and actively listen to their client’s concerns, fears, and emotions. This can help clients feel heard and understood, contributing to a positive relationship and helps the solicitor understand the client’s priorities.

However, while solicitors can offer emotional support, they are not a substitute for mental health professionals. If a client is experiencing significant emotional distress, solicitors may recommend seeking additional support from a qualified therapist or counsellor.

“ Solicitors are all about court “

Court appearances are only one part of their work. Many solicitors handle cases outside of court through negotiations, settlements, contracts, administration and much more.

“ Solicitors are only for big corporations “

That is not the case. In fact, solicitors work with individuals, small businesses, startups, and organisations of all sizes, tailoring their services to meet the specific needs and resources of their clients.

It’s important to note that perceptions of solicitors are diverse and can be influenced by a variety of factors.

Solicitors, like any professionals, exhibit a range of personalities, and their primary goal is to provide effective legal assistance while maintaining professionalism and respect for their clients.

London Legal Walk 2025

The Aston Bond team has proudly taken part in the London Legal Walk 2025, joining thousands of lawyers in support of legal advice charities across the UK. The 10km route through central London was more than just about taking steps – it was about helping people who depend on free legal support during some of the hardest times in their lives.

The walk was an amazing experience for everyone involved. We all had so much energy and enjoyed the chance to connect outside of the office while supporting an important cause.

From sightseeing London’s landmarks, the big crowd of lawyers cheering each other on, and the lively street party at the end, we can definitely say it was a fun-filled day.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported us and donated – your generosity made it all worth it. We’re already looking forward to next year.

Have You Ever Lied on Your CV? You Might Want to Think Twice

At some point in their career, many job seekers are tempted to embellish their qualifications, inflate their job titles, or extend their employment dates in hopes of landing the perfect role. But have you ever stopped to think about the legal consequences of lying on your CV?

According to a 2024 survey by YouGov, over 1 in 10 UK adults (11%) admitted to lying on their CV. While some may consider it a harmless exaggeration, the law sees it very differently.

Under the Fraud Act 2006, providing false information on a CV can be classified as fraud by false representation. This offence carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years. That’s right — lying on your CV can land you behind bars.

The landmark case of R v. Andrewes (2022) saw a man jailed after faking his qualifications to secure a high-paying NHS executive role. The courts sent a clear message: dishonesty in job applications will not be taken lightly.

What Does This Mean for You?

If you’re applying for a job, it’s essential to ensure your CV is accurate and truthful. Employers are increasingly conducting thorough background checks, and even minor discrepancies can cost you the job — or worse.

If you’ve made a mistake in the past or are facing an investigation related to CV fraud, it’s crucial to seek legal advice immediately.

Honesty isn’t just the best policy — it’s the law.

Pride Month at Aston Bond

Pride Month is a special time for us to come together and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, look back on how far society has come, and acknowledging the progress to come. This month is all about honouring their history, commemorating the Stonewall Uprising of 1969, when the LGBTQ+ community stood up against systemic police brutality and discrimination. This sparked a global movement for equality and visibility, as the community continue to face challenges that go far beyond the symbolic.

We need Pride Month because, even in places where progress has been made, LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination in housing, healthcare, education, and employment. Hate crimes against the community continue to happen. For instance, trans rights are at risk in numerous countries, with harmful legislation targeting access to gender-affirming care and legal recognition.

Because many young LGBTQ+ people still grow up feeling isolated or unsafe, facing higher rates of bullying, mental health issues, and homeless. This is why visibility, representation, and support are needed.

While society has come a long way, acceptance is not yet universal – and rights won can still be taken away.

Pride month is a celebration of identity, resilience, and the freedom to be yourself. It’s about amplifying voices that have been silenced and creating spaces where everyone feels seen, safe, and valued.

Aston Bond stands with the LGBTQ+ community and the fight for equal rights which is why, in celebration of Pride Month, we’re offering free 20-minute phone consultations all June long for members of the LGBTQ+ community who have faced discrimination. If you’ve had challenges at work, in housing, or elsewhere, our friendly team is here to listen, support, and provide guidance. Just give us a call at 01753 486 777 to book your free consultation with our team. We look forward to hearing from you!

Isha’s Journey: Gaining Legal Insight at Our Firm

We were delighted to welcome Isha to our law firm as part of her work experience placement.

During her time with us, Isha showed great intelligence, curiosity, and a clear passion for the legal field. She quickly grasped complex concepts and engaged thoughtfully with every task. It was a pleasure having such a sharp and motivated young mind on our team.

In Isha’s words:

” I had the pleasure of completing work experience with Aston Bond, which I thoroughly enjoyed and valued.

As a non-law graduate, this week was integral in furthering my passion for law and developing my knowledge and understanding of different practice areas and the work completed within them.

My week consisted of undertaking various administrative tasks, such as preparing documents, filing them away electronically and working on excel spreadsheets. I largely used the firm’s main software, ALB, spending time reading and sorting through matters uploaded onto it, exposing me to real life cases.

Additionally, I had the fantastic opportunity to complete document drafting with multiple practice areas. I worked closely with the Wills and Estate Planning team, where I drafted many wills and accompanying covering letters. I also had a go at drafting a couple lease agreements given to me by the Commercial Property team, where I utilised Thomson Reuter’s Practical Law to expand my understanding of the clauses and provisions within the agreement. Lastly, I engaged with the Employment team where I drafted template settlement agreements for employees.

This week highlighted to me the importance of having genuine people alongside you in the workplace, as everyone in the office was very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Even when others had their own tasks to be getting on with, they never failed to assist me with any queries I had or offer new tasks so I could enhance my understanding of law.

Overall, I had an amazing week in which I learnt a lot and met lovely people, therefore I would highly recommend Aston Bond to complete work experience with”.
