Charters school career event 2023

Educating and inspiring enthusiastic young minds. Something we love and take pride in at Aston Bond!

This month Jaspreet Kaur (commercial property paralegal) and Lara Thomas (private client solicitor) attended Charters School in association with Learning to Work for a student careers event!

Pupils had the opportunity to hear first hand advice from both Jaspreet and Lara about all the different career paths open to them.

On behalf of Charters School, Learning to Work hosted this careers fair to bring exhibitors from a range of training providers and organisations into school, allowing students to learn more about different pathways and network with business volunteers.

Students and business volunteers had the opportunity to interact and provide hands-on activities to help engage. Parents were also given an allocated timeslot to allow them to access careers advice and opportunities in the surrounding areas.

The event was attended by approximately 1600 students ranging from Year 9- 13 (Ages 11-18) to give them an insight into the world of work.

We would like to thank Charters School in association with Learning to Work for inviting us to this event.

Here are some snaps:

Aston Bond’s firewalk challenge 2023

Our Staff were given the opportunity to test their mind power last week and walk on fire!

10 people decided to take on the challenge and take the steps over the 1300 degrees hot embers. There was a lot of nerves from the participants throughout the week, but a lot of excitement for what we were about to achieve.

We arrived at the location for our 1.5hour seminar to prepare ourselves for what we were about to do. We learned all about” mind over matter” and there were a few examples on stage with volunteers putting the concept into practice.

First, we saw that by watching someone on stage take a deep bite out of a lemon, the audience mimicking the action could actually taste the same thing!

Then, volunteers from the audience were coached into placing a steel tipped arrow against the soft part of their neck (between the collar bones) and walking into the arrow.  Amazing, they could actually snap the arrow itself and managed not to get hurt.

Finally, they showed us that it is possible to walk on broken glass and not suffer any cuts or pain.

All of this was part of the process to prepare us mentally for the challenge ahead and make us understand how powerful our minds are.   We all felt confident, so we proceeded to go outside to the event site.

Here is Nicola’s experience:

“Standing at the start of the walk, seeing those blazing embers and the heat coming off them somehow made me forget everything I was just told. My mind was focussed on the voice of my mother saying “Be careful Nicola”.

I tried to focus my mind, but I couldn’t do it. I had frozen and I was just stood there.

Five minutes later, I came back to the front of the line and it was my turn. The words coming out of my mouth were not repeatable. I could feel the heat from the embers on my face and I was jogging on the spot and doing the hokey kokey with my legs!

Then, my mind focused…JUST DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!…

I took the first step and the second, then I realised “Oh S*** I’m doing it!”

I stood there at the end holding the hands of the speaker. I’d done it! I had walked over 1300 degrees hot embers!”

Sulaiman’s experience:

“I let go of all the negative thoughts and I just achieved something that I didn’t think I had it in me to do. I feel very motivated!”

Joe says;

“I was stood there at the start, wondering if this was about to go well, am I going to get burnt, but I just did it. Afterwards, I stood at the end on the cool grass and realised I wasn’t burnt at all and felt so motivated by it.”

Jaspreet says:

“I felt empowered. My mind set has changed and I am more positive. I feel like I can take on more obstacles without overthinking it.”

At Aston Bond, we aim to build a strong, motivated team and we have regular events throughout the year for teambuilding. This time, the team were challenged to overcome fears to realise that they are stronger people than they give themselves credit for.

By building a strong team, the moral increases and the team become a more motivated, close-nit unit that work better together. This in turn creates better results in their work and brings us all closer working towards the same objective!

We want to share with you a few snippets from the night…

Aston Bond Walks for the London Legal Walk 2019

London Legal walk here we come!

We are walking with the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers to raise funds for the London Legal Support Trust which funds Law Centres and pro bono agencies in and around London.

The London Legal Walk returns on Monday 17th June 2019. A 10km walk all through central London, and it’s something Aston Bond enjoy being part of year in year out.

Giving back and raising money is something that underpins the core values of Aston Bond, and knowing that the sum of our efforts can help bring justice and change to those who are less fortunate or unable to seek basic legal advice is fantastic. The company always hits the pavements of the big city to show their support and raise as much money as possible to help a great charity, who are doing great things.

We know that these agencies do a fantastic job in preventing homelessness, resolving debt problems, gaining care for the elderly and disabled and fighting exploitation.

We also know how short they are of the funds to continue that work.

Click here to go to the JustGiving page and donate as much as you can, thank you.

Here’s the team taking on the 10km walk last year!

Aston Bond attend the Slough careers fair

Aston Bond solicitors gave their time supporting young students and giving general careers advice at the Slough Careers Fair this week.  The Slough Aspire Careers Fair brings a local schools together with businesses and further education colleges and is run by the charity Learning to Work.  Aston Bond have been keen supporters for the past few years.  It is always rewarding taking part in these events, both on the Q&A panel and meeting students individually at our stall. The level of interest in a career in law is heartening and we were impressed by the calibre and enthusiasm of the young people we met.

An ambitious 10km walk all through central London, and it’s something Aston Bond enjoy being part of year in year out, helping to raise money for the London Legal Support Trust. The charity helps raise money for Legal Aid, Legal Aid helps people who are unable to afford legal advice, to obtain needed legal representation.

This year we’re going for an ambitious £600, we’ve now got under four months to make it happen, but we’re hoping with your help we can raise enough money to support the London Legal Support trust; which will all make a difference to their admirable work.

Click here to go to the JustGiving page and donate as much as you can, thank you.

Aston Bond’s London Legal Walk 2017

Aston Bond’s London Legal Walk 2017

On May the 22nd, Aston Bond took part in The London Legal Walk 2017 for the third year running. This iconic 10km walk around central is the largest fundraising event in the legal calendar. Thousands of lawyers, judges, colleagues and friends (both human and of the four-legged variety) all walked this year to help raise money and awareness for vital legal aid in and around London. The turnout was huge, with as many as 700 teams and 12,000 people taking part – record breaking for this event!

When we arrived we were greeted by a street party. There were people dressed up and on stilts, a duo of walking bushes, flame jugglers, Jamaican steel drums and even Judge Rinder. Everyone that took part was happy to take photos with the walkers and really put the effort in to making London Legal Walk 2017 very entertaining.

The sun was out and it was the perfect day for everyone involved. This year there were two routes to choose from. The park route took you down the Mall, past Buckingham palace, through St James’ Park, Hyde Park, and through Charring Cross.  The other walk was the river walk which lead us down the Embankment, across the river to the Southbank, past the London eye and by Big Ben and back across at Vauxhall bridge and past Parliament. We chose the river walk, as it was the new route for this year.

Our reward for the walk was to be greeted by the much-needed food and drinks stalls at the street party on Carey Street.  The aromas from the churros truck was well worth the wait and after such a walk we all allowed ourselves the luxury of tucking in to some delicious food and a refreshing drink.  The atmosphere at these events is always one of camaraderie and this year was no different.  The organisers did a fantastic job yet again.

As a firm we raised over £623.75 – a massive thank you to everyone that sponsored us to help beat last year’s target!  An expected amount of over £800,000 has been raised collectively during the London Legal Walk from all the firms that took part.

Windsor Boys Boat Club Success

As their sponsor, we are proud of Windsor Boys Boat Club’s success over the Bank Holiday weekend! The final weekend of April was an eventful and successful one for Windsor Boys Boat Club. Across three days there were four regattas, with over 80 boys out racing! Races took place at Evesham Regatta, Evesham Sprint Regatta, Wallingford Regatta at Dorney Lake and Marlow Spring Regatta.

Evesham Regatta and Evesham Sprint Regatta are held consecutively. The course used is a very testing one, which is narrow and difficult to tackle. The year 9’s of Windsor Boys Boat Club were out racing at their first ever regatta at both events. This served a great learning curve about regatta racing for them.

At Dorney Lake, the senior boys were training on Saturday for the events ahead of them. In defiance of the high winds on Sunday, the teams race excellently. The doubles sculls event was won by Windsor Boys alongside another victory for the quads event as well! Two wins for the senior boys of the boat club. Congratulations!

During the Bank Holiday Monday, the Marlow Spring Regatta took place. This lead to more triumph for the Club. The J14 quad proudly won the novice quad competition and the J15 and J16 quads also won their events.

A great success for the Boat Club and massive congratulations from the team at Aston Bond!

Aston Bond are proud to announce that we will be hosting Pure Networking Windsor events. The location of these events will be held at Browns, Windsor, every month. As the name suggests, the event is purely about networking. Every aspect of Pure Networking is focused on networking:

  • The events are pay-as-you-go and no membership is required, making them fully accessible.
  • Drinks coupons are included within the ticket price, adding additional value to the ticket and also avoids wasting time paying at the bar.
  • The food is ‘finger friendly’ and laid out in buffet style, so our attendees can eat while ‘working the room’.
  • We provide name badges to avoid awkward moments of not remembering someone’s name.
  • We provide attendee lists so our networkers can follow-up with each other and is also helpful if you run out of business cards!
  • We rarely allow speakers at our events, minimising interruption to networking.

There is a demand for this unique style of networking and Pure Networking is in the process of rolling out events nationally. Pure Networking currently operate events in Bournemouth, Salisbury and Windsor and are also in the process of launching their first London event.

If you want to see what all the excitement is about, then book onto the next Pure Networking Windsor event. Don’t miss out!

The London Legal Walk 2017

Aston Bond are always getting involved in charity events to help raise awareness and funds. This year, for the third year running, we will be taking part in the ‘London Legal Walk’ to help raise money towards supporting free legal advice in and around London.

This iconic 10km walk around central London is the largest fundraising event in the legal calendar and will take place on the 22nd May. Last year over £740,000 was raised, which is amazing, but this year we want to beat that target! Please make a donation on our Virgin Money Giving page to help support vital legal aid in and around London.
