Expertise
Devendra is an experienced Solicitor specialising in Private Client and Private Wealth law, advising individuals and families on Wills, succession and estate planning, probate and estate administration, trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Devendra advises individuals and families on a wide range of complex Private Client and Private Wealth matters, often involving a combination of succession planning, property ownership, trusts, taxation and sensitive family circumstances.
Having previously established and run his own private client practice, Devendra brings many years of experience to his role at Aston Bond, together with a strong understanding of the importance of building trusted, long-term relationships with clients and their families. He has particular experience advising where estates include substantial property portfolios, business and investment interests, trusts, overseas assets and inheritance tax considerations.
Devendra also advises executors, trustees and beneficiaries on complex probate and estate administration matters, including estates involving multiple beneficiaries, trust arrangements, inheritance tax issues and assets across different jurisdictions. His experience includes advising a family on complex historic property and trust arrangements established to provide long-term protection and security for a vulnerable family member. The matter required careful consideration of the family’s original intentions, beneficial ownership of the family home, lifetime occupation and beneficial rights, succession arrangements and the potential inheritance tax consequences.
Devendra helped the family navigate the complex legal and practical issues, co-ordinating closely with expert tax advisers to ensure that the legal arrangements were considered alongside the relevant inheritance tax and wider taxation implications. This collaborative approach enabled appropriate documentation to be developed to record and clarify the family’s historic arrangements, while ensuring that the protection and future security of the vulnerable family member remained central throughout. A significant part of Devendra’s Private Wealth work involves looking beyond the immediate legal issue and considering the client’s wider family and financial circumstances. This can include succession planning, the preservation and transfer of family wealth between generations, protecting vulnerable beneficiaries and structuring Wills and trusts to provide appropriate flexibility and protection for families as their circumstances change.
Approach
Devendra believes that good Private Client and Private Wealth advice starts with understanding the individual, their family and what they are ultimately trying to achieve. His approach is personal, practical and straightforward. He takes time to understand not simply a client’s assets, but also their family circumstances, concerns and longer-term objectives before recommending an appropriate structure.
He is particularly conscious that discussions surrounding Wills, inheritance, family wealth and later-life planning can involve difficult or sensitive issues. His aim is therefore to make what can sometimes be complicated legal and tax matters clear and understandable, allowing clients to make informed decisions with confidence. He regularly works alongside accountants, financial advisers and other professionals to ensure clients receive joined-up advice and particularly values the long-term relationships he develops with clients and their families.
Outside the Office
Outside work, Devendra enjoys travelling, music and sport and is a huge NFL fan. He is a particularly passionate supporter of the San Francisco 49ers — through the good seasons and the character-building ones!
